EL PASO, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Yesterday, Health Supply US (HSUS) and IGP USA welcomed Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) to their facility in El Paso, Texas to showcase how the facility was retrofitted to manufacture much needed personal protective equipment (PPE) for American front-line workers, and discuss how the government can ensure a steady stream of domestically produced PPE now and into the future.
Over a year after the COVID-19 pandemic devastated the community of El Paso, HSUS and IGP USA are proud to show how their efforts directly contributed to the local and national recovery efforts.
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar said, “The COVID-19 health and economic crisis has deeply impacted our communities and exposed the need to urgently address our nation’s vulnerabilities in the supply chains of critical and essential goods – including PPE. As I work in Congress to help create more resilient and secure supply chains, I am proud that El Paso companies like IGP USA have been part of the fight against this deadly virus while innovating and saving local jobs.”
HSUS CEO Chris Garcia said that the work to produce PPE was personal. “Hardships create strength, and watching communities like El Paso band together to fight this pandemic gives us motivation,” said Garcia. “We founded HSUS with the goal to manufacture high-quality, American-made medical supplies and to invest in reshoring American manufacturing. Through collaboration with IGP USA, we were able to answer our nation’s call to provide quality, FDA-approved isolation gowns as requested by the federal government.”
IGP USA is one of nine factories that HSUS set up to supply the country with PPE to help with the current fight against COVID-19 and future national security needs. The El Paso factory was fitted to produce isolation gowns that meet the stringent quality and safety standards established by the Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the federal government. To date, HSUS has manufactured more than eight million American-made gowns for the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS).
HSUS has invested in research and development, equipment, materials, and labor to manufacture these essential medical supplies. These investments represent the company’s commitment to establishing a fully domestic supply chain to prepare the nation for future crises and create and sustain American jobs.
Cesar Viramontes from IGP USA said, “We are proud to work with HSUS to manufacture much needed PPE to help with the current pandemic and for future use. IGP USA will continue to work to contribute towards a domestic supply chain of PPE for El Paso and the rest of the country.”
HSUS is a minority-owned business and is proud that six of the facility partners include minority or women-owned businesses. In the past year, HSUS operations directly or indirectly supported more than 5,000 American jobs.
HSUS and IGP USA are committed to building up a domestic industrial base for a public health supply chain in the US and creating new economic opportunities. The companies will continue to work towards the goal of ramping up PPE production in the United States—while reshoring American manufacturing jobs.
